Ask God for the Impossible!

Oftentimes in both life and ministry we hit a wall. Where did the wall come from? What is it preventing us from doing? Unfortunately, when we face that obstacle we usually turn around and try to find another way, or worse, give up altogether.
As a local pastor, I get to encounter challenges all the time and very few of them are my own. Since I’m investing my life into those I care for, their roadblocks become my roadblocks, their losses are my losses, so on and so forth. What I’ve discovered though is that while these issues are very much “real” and visual, the answer to engaging them is both unseen and obvious.
This is where that word, “faith” comes into play. Here we are as followers of this divine being, God, who created the universe, formed humanity from dust, then manifested Himself into the form of a man (Christ), died for us (defeating sin), then rose again (conquering death). Pretty powerful, right? Yet for some reason we don’t carry this belief in that same God when life hits us hard. The Almighty God we worship takes a back seat to the worries that trap us!
But what if we weren’t like that? What if we believed in “the impossible”? That the things that our world tells us are too far, too hard, too much, and too unrealistic, could actually be dealt with?
“Church software” is not unlike this. The day-to-day tasks that we encounter in the office can add up, forming some sort of monster that preys on weary church staff. This is why ACS Technologies offers the kind of ministry solutions that it does… to answer the common problems that seem too big to take on. OnDemand is a great example in how it addressed the issue of remote access, which appeared to be “impossible” years ago. But even the best designed products aren’t enough to overcome a frightened faith!
Steven Furtick, Lead Pastor of Elevation Church in Matthews, N.C., has written an awesome new book called, “Sun Stand Still” that speaks of possessing beliefs that are stronger than our fears. It borrows its name from the book of Joshua, chapter 10 that says,

12 On the day the LORD gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the LORD in the presence of Israel:
“Sun, stand still over Gibeon,
and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.”
13 So the sun stood still,
and the moon stopped,
till the nation avenged itself on its enemies,
as it is written in the Book of Jashar.
The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day.
14 There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the LORD listened to a human being. Surely the LORD was fighting for Israel!

It was that kind of unshakable faith in the Lord that helped Joshua defeat his enemies! It’s this notion of victorious living that Furtick does a great job in sharing stories about.
The book is not merely another pastor-written motivational tool that we see displayed on TV and in bookstores everywhere. Instead, it has caught on as a prayer movement around the country! The tagline says it all…

“What happens when you dare to ask God for the impossible? Dreams are realized. Lives are transformed. The world is changed.”

Your life is not meant to be full of moments where you have retreated! It is intended to be full of personal victories that points to the great, big God you love and worship!
