Here Are 5 Tips for Reopening Daycare Centers in Your Church

Though we thought the pandemic would have subsided by now, we are still adjusting to this new season we find ourselves in. With the school year starting, its time to start thinking about how to do childcare safely.

Here are 5 tips for reopening daycare centers in your church:

1. Take 30-minute bathroom breaks to simply go wash hands thoroughly

  • This may seem excessive at times, but it will help keep the kids sanitized and clean while also allowing time to sanitize their play area or toys. This is, of course, especially important before and after having snacks.

2. Create groups of 4 to 6 kids

  • The size of the group may vary according to the size of your church and the number of staff. But small groups limit contact and make it easy to rotate going outside, to the bathroom, play areas, etc.

3. Invest in a non-contact thermometer

  • Simply, take kids’ temperatures before they enter the daycare area. Non-contact thermometers are easy to use and get results quickly. Additionally, take staff temperatures when they come in to ensure everyone is in the clear.

4. Regularly clean every 30 minutes

  • During the bathroom breaks or another time when an area is empty, thoroughly clean the area and any toys that were being used. Even trying to clean toys before kids share with each other would be beneficial.

5. Have hand sanitizer on hand

  • Check the CDC’s website for a list of hand sanitizer brands that could potentially be harmful to kids. Additionally, it’s recommended not to provide hand sanitizer to kids under a certain age so refer to the CDC’s website for that as well.

These are merely suggestions, always refer to local laws and the CDC for expert advice. The CDC has many pages dedicated to guiding operating daycare facilities safely.
