acs technologies employee michael

This week we are introducing you to our Architect Lead in our R&D department, Michael. He began working at ACS Technologies in 2010.

Michael was born in Fort Worth, Texas and spent the first three weeks of his life there while his father finished seminary school. He now resides in South Carolina, as he has for most of his life, with his family and two dogs. One of Michael’s top personal goals in life is to lead others. Sometimes that is through work and his job, but more importantly he hopes his life is one that reflects Christ to others. The most important thing in his life is his family. He strives to make sure they are safe and healthy and know and love their savior. Michael is an introvert by nature but absolutely loves to perform in musical theatre (And he is an absolutely amazing singer!). When his children are a little older he hopes to spend more time back at the theatre. He most recently learned how to do video edits and run a livestream for his church. He had all Praise Team instruments and singers pre record their parts separately and he had to edit them all together then combine that with remote, live speakers while running the livestream each Sunday morning out of his home during COVID19.He says it was fun to learn, albeit a little stressful! When he has free time Michael enjoys catching up on video games with his friends.

Let’s check out his typical workday, why he loves working at ACST, and his passion for the church.

What does a typical day look like at ACST for you?

My days are typically split up in 3 ways. I have many meetings with Development Teams and Management to discuss ongoing and upcoming projects and how we can best approach them utilizing our chosen technologies. I also spend time communicating with and building our Architecture Community of Practice which is a group open to anyone interested in or knowledgeable about Architecture. We utilize this Community to bolster each other through shared experiences and communication as well as discuss details about changes to technologies, standards, or procedures that govern our day to day work. Lastly I spend time on vision casting where we should be targeted and moving towards architecturally. I do this by analyzing our current technologies, potential technologies, and seeing where we need improvements in our code whether that be in efficiency of development, ease of use, or cost reductions. We have a mixture of Architectural Roadmap items to move us forward and to improve areas of concern in the product and I work with Management and other teams to research and set a plan for how to approach all of the things set before us that we can improve.

What do you love most about working at ACST?

The atmosphere and culture are awesome, I love who I work with, but most of all I love what we work on. I wanted to work in technology, but knowing that the programs we write aren’t just to make money, but to help God’s kingdom do the work He has asked of us makes it not just a job, but a mission.

What is your driving passion for the Church?

I grew up in the church. My father was a Southern Baptist minister and he instilled in me a love of Christ and for ministering to others through music and worship. Today I am a Deacon at my church and am a member of our Praise Team leading each Sunday through singing and worshiping the Lord. Outside of services I help research and set up the sound system, our presentation software, and have been running our weekly Live Streams during COVID.
