Pain Points Every Church is Feeling Right Now: Groups

Paint point 4: Keeping your groups together when you’re not meeting.

Chances are you have groups within your church. Whether you have 2 or 20, they are vital to the community within your congregation. Since you aren’t meeting or are meeting with serious social distancing guidelines, your groups probably haven’t been meeting or are really struggling to find a way to connect while keeping a safe distance. This is especially frustrating because you don’t want people to lose connections and their communities.

Finding ways to keep your groups meeting safely can be frustrating in the middle of a pandemic. Here are some creative ways that your groups can still stay connected and plugged into your church.

  • Have group leaders hold Zoom meetings – do this every week.
  • Have meetings in your parking lot – Socially distant of course.
  • Have a drive-in movie night – everyone stays in their cars but you’re still together.
  • Hold a virtual cooking competition – everyone votes on the best looking dish.
  • Start a bible study – stay up to date in a group message about what you’re reading.
  • Write letters to your group members – who doesn’t love snail mail?
  • Group leaders hold a daily challenge – do a workout, complete a puzzle, etc.
  •  Play online games – Jackbox Games is one of my favorites!

Don’t be afraid to be creative! Your group understands there’s not much we can do right now. Anything you come up with to keep them engaged, they’ll love. They will appreciate the effort and I am sure they’ll have fun too!
