Ways to appreciate Your Pastor

Pastors are a gift from God. That’s why we love that the month of October is Pastor Appreciation Month. This year has been extra tough on them. I can only imagine what pastoring through a pandemic would be like. Making a decision to close when it first began, deciding whether or not to reopen, figuring out how their staff was going to work from home, and that doesn’t even include pastoring to the congregation or counseling.

Here are a few ways to make your pastor’s October a little bit sweeter.

  1. A Night Out – Cook a meal and invite your pastor and his family over for dinner. If you aren’t the best cook like me, give them a gift card to use one night. Make sure there is no work talk for the whole night.
  2. Books – Most Pastors love to read. Find out some books he really wants to read. You can make it a gift basket and include a reading light, bookmark, and coffee mug to go along with it.
  3. A Leather Journal and Nice Pen Set – Pastors take lots of notes and journal a good bit. I know there’s so much technology nowadays you can make your notes digitally but in my opinion, there is nothing like writing something down every now and then.
  4. Invite Your Pastor out for coffee – Meet your pastor for coffee one afternoon and invite some of his closest friends.
  5. Encouragement from the congregation – Pass around a nice leather notebook and have the congregation write encouraging words.
  6. Mow their Lawn/Clean their House – Doing little tasks for them will give them more time in their day to do what they need to do.
  7. Say Thank You – Not every gift you give has to be extravagant. A simple thank you to your pastor goes a long way.
  8. Pray for them – Let them know you appreciate them and you’re praying for God’s blessing upon them.

No matter what you decide to do for your pastor in October I know they will appreciate the love and support. Remember to appreciate and show your love for them not just in October but every month of the year. They are one of the few that work hard 24/7/365.
